PRE-UNIVERSITY EDUCATION
Elementary school for children in Iran
starts at the age of six and consists of five years of elementary (kindergarten)
school, three years of secondary school (junior high school), and four years of
senior high school which leads to a high school diploma or a pre-university diploma.
UNIVERSITY EDUCATION
Having a high school diploma or a pre-university
certificate and passing the general entrance exam of universities and higher education
institutes are required.
There are different offered by various universities:
1- Associates of Arts Diploma: This is usually a two-year program after a high school
diploma or a pre-university certificate, and students are required to pass 73 credits
to obtain an Associate of Arts diploma.
2- Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree (a Discontinuous program). This program is usually
held after the Associates of Arts diploma and students are required to pass 70 credits
to obtain a B.A./B.S. degree.
3- Bachelor's Degree: This degree requires at least four years of study after a
high school diploma.
4- Master's Degree: This degree is usually obtained after two years of study after
a B.A/B.S. degree, and students are required to present a thesis.
5- Ph.D Program. This program requires four to five years of study and research
after a Master's degree. The students are required to pass some subjects, pass a
comprehensive exam, and present a research thesis.
EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM AT THE USC
Education at the USC is based on credits.
In this system, every subject is evaluated by the number of credits. Passing or
failing in any subject is restricted to that subject only.
Every credit for a theoretical, practical, or laboratory, work-shops, and field
study is evaluated by the amount of time spent such as 16 hours, 32 hours, and 48
hours respectively in every semester according to the approved curricula.
Note: The periods of taking exams and summer courses are not included in the official
education years.
All majors, curricula, and syllabi are approved by the supreme council of programming
of the USC and are followed by all faculties and departments accordingly. |
